A Letter to the Mothers

What a privilege it is to be a mother. We took on this job not fully knowing how much we'd give up to raise these tiny humans whom we love more than life itself. We give up our bodies for ten months before they're even born. Countless sleepless nights, the worry that comes with every thing that they do and don't do. The time spent doing research for the best babysitters, or preschool, the best car seat or toys. Constantly putting yourself last so you can take care of these precious beings. The demands of parenthood can be overwhelming and exhausting. It is easy to feel like you're running on empty.

You're love, dedication and sacrifice are truly admirable. Remind yourself that you're doing an amazing job, even through the hardships of the temper tantrums from your two year old, the arguments of your eight year old not wanting to eat what is for dinner. You are not alone, and again you are doing a fantastic job!

It is also important to remember that you can not pour from an empty cup, and that cup can get empty before you even realize you have nothing left. You need to take care of yourself in order to take care of others. Going through each day with stress on your shoulders will push you until you collapse. Do not be afraid to ask for help, or to take a break when you need it. Prioritize self care, whether it is taking a walk, reading a book or simply taking a few deep breaths.

Creating new habits can be hard when you're feeling overwhelmed. Ask yourself, "What is something small I could start with?"

Some habits that can help you feel better:

- Practicing gratitude

- Exercise

- Meditating

- Journaling

- Reading

- Finding a hobby you love

Start with one of these and once it becomes a habit build upon it. Even if its 5-10 minutes a day.

Finally, find your support system. A community of others going through the same experiences can be helpful.
